The Gary Niehaus Field is located at the Tuttle Creek Reservoir just south of the Dam on the east side. You can reach the aerodrome by driving north from Manhattan on Tuttle Creek Blvd. (Highway 24) for approximately five miles and turning right on Highway 13 which will take you across the dam. Take the first right on the east side of the Dam before you go over the spillway. The aerodrome is about 1/4 miles on the left before you enter the River pond State Park. If you exited early into the River Pond area south of the dam just stay on the main road that circles around the spill way and the aerodrome is on the other side of the River Pond State Park, up the hill and on your right. Our field overlooks the overflow area of the spillway. Our GPS coordinates are N 39 deg 15.500' (39.258333) and W 96 deg 34.419' (-96.57365).
Our primary runway is grass and approximately 50 by 500 feet. The cross wind runway is also grass and approximately 50 by 300 feet. We have bleachers and picnic tables for viewing the flying. Two portable toilets are on site; one is ADA compliant. Our Pits area is for the pilots and their helpers only and has 4 safety start-up stands, ample tables for assembly and five concrete pilot stations on the flight line. Only pilots and their helpers are allowed east of the short chain link fence for safety. Access to our field is through a locked gate and anybody and everybody is welcome to enter and watch whenever this gate is open.
We have an annual Fly-in every year that takes place on the first Sunday of June. Any AMA member is welcome to fly and spectators are always welcome!
